Does That Make Me Crazy?

The short answer: probably. After whining about my hectic schedule, I just accepted another class -- really, it's more a segment of a class. The professor is out until Thanksgiving for medical reasons, and I received an email asking if I would like to fill in (for an extra thousand bucks) during her absence. I was on the fence; the extra money is nice, and the class could easily work with my current schedule. The downside is that it meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. My other classes on that campus meet Tuesdays and Thursdays (so I'll be there five days a week), and I have one other class that meets from 5:30-7:50 on Monday and Wednesday nights. I'll be a little more busy with this additional class, but it's just for a few weeks, and the money will help me pay off some of my renovation expenses. I decided to express mild interest and see what happened. Almost immediately, I received a very excited response from the department chair, thanking me for taking on the class. Hmm. I hadn't actually accepted the class, but I guess I have now.

I'll be sorry to lose part of my Fridays (my usual errand-running days) but it is for only a few weeks. This also has to be worth some good points at this university where I'm teaching this fall for the first time. As for the Mondays and Wednesdays, it's probably helpful to get my head into teaching mode earlier in the day. Being a morning person (not by choice; I don't know why I wake up so early), it's hard for me to get to my first class of the day at 5:30 p.m. Maybe this new class will serve as a warm-up. At the very least, it will get me out of the house for a while on those days, a good thing as I try to work through my difficult lifestyle changes. I'm going to call it a win-win.
