I started to say "calling in my chips", but then I thought it would be "cashing in my chips", which isn't exactly right. I think "calling in markers" is a thing, but maybe it's an old-fashioned way to say it. Anyway, I've lent out small amounts of money and, while I'm not destitute or anything, I am committed to living on my wages (as opposed to dipping into retirement funds), and this month is making that a difficult challenge. Even though I don't have any huge amounts outstanding, cumatively they will make enough of a difference to get me to my next payday.
After he got off work today, my son went to Bank of America to deposit cash into my account for something I'd let him put on my charge. It was under $200 but it help hold me over until payday. Before he went, he sent me a text: "Hopefully a huge fight doesn't break out when I go in there throwing some Wells Fargo signs." (He works for Wells Fargo.) I said, "Haha. Don't wear your colors," to which he replied, "That's funny because they are actually Crips and Bloods colors." Of course, I knew that! That's why I said what I said. I'm glad my sons and I share a sense of humor, but sometimes they think they have to explain cultural references to me. Oy. Anyway, it was fine. He was wearing blue, which hadn't caused any trouble at Wells Fargo during his workday and may have protected him at Bank of America. (I'm kidding, just so you know.)
My other marker may or may not get paid today, but I'll be okay either way. My insurance company will pay me back for any expenses I've incurred and paid up front, and my next paycheck will be pretty substantial -- the upside to teaching two seven-week classes! With all of my away-from-home costs, I would have had a hard time paying my meager bills and buying food and gas. The assessors and/or my adjustor never got back to me, so I still don't know if my house is mold-free. I'm going with the assumption that it is and getting some cleaning done. With the doorways taped and everything put in boxes, it's the perfect time to paint. Now I can buy paint! It should be a great -- and productive -- weekend.
