Celebrity Endorsements

I haven't said much about the insane political climate, and I don't intend to now. I will say that, like her or hate her, Hillary Clinton made history last night. Now, as never before, young girls can aspire to attain even the highest office in the land, without it being a pipe dream. She may be elected; she may not be. Either way, for her to have been nominated says a lot about how far our society has come. And it only took a hundred years -- give or take a few -- after we got the vote.

What I will talk about is the level of celebrities endorsing Clinton versus those supporting Trump -- not just supporting, but speaking at the conventions. Some say (to quote fox news -- yes, I intentionally did not capitalize it) that this is a sign of the liberal bias of Hollywood. However, these other "stars", those who spoke at the Republican convention, are equally Hollywood; they're just less good at it. I know who very few celebrities are, but I know Angela Bassett, Elizabeth Banks, and Sigourney Weaver (even if I can't spell their names right). I suppose Michael Bloomberg is his own kind of celebrity, obviously know for politics rather than acting, and I hadn't known much about him before last night, other than his attempts to limit the size of sodas in New York when he was mayor. Still, I found him compelling, humble, and most of all right! He was so straightforward and (intentionally or not) amusing.

Even though I've voted in every election since I turned eighteen (with the notable exception of 2000, when I first moved to Florida and hadn't changed over my voter registration), but I don't remember ever watching any convention before this year. I like that the Democrats are focusing on love over hate, peace over fear. I'm not afraid -- are you? -- and I don't like feeling bullied and intimidated into thinking I should be. I'll leave it there for now.
