When I say to my kids, "Let's go see the beautiful place," they know exactly what I'm talking about. A neighborhood near mine goes crazy for Christmas. Residents on two parallel streets put up so many lights in really unusual and creative arrangements that each year more and more people drive out to see the display. Because it defies description, I won't even attempt it. I will just say that it's one of my favorite things about Christmas, for reasons you'll see below. I don't tell people where it is (well, I do, but only I don't tell many); it isn't that I don't want others to see it. I'm concerned that if even more cars drive out there, the display will be declared a traffic hazard and shut down.
I didn't go last year, and I'm not sure about the year before. But tonight I told my son I needed a dose. We'll all go again when my family gets into town. In the meantime, enjoy a little glimpse into the beautiful place, keeping in mind that pictures don't nearly do it justice.
