After my foot surgery, once I started walking again, my biggest motivator was wanting to be able to walk around Legoland with my family when my granddaughters came to visit. While it turned out to be a good incentive, and I have no doubt that it really did move me along in the healing process, today I am sitting alone in my son's apartments while he, his brother, and his nieces are enjoying Legoland. I have a horrible sinus infection and I could barely move, much less go gallivanting about in the land of Legos. I'm glad the others were able to go, and I gave them money to pay their admission, but treating them to a trip without me isn't quite the same as going along.
When they get home, it's time to go back to Jacksonville. I'm going to try really hard to get a good night's sleep so I'll be able to teach my class in the morning; whether I'm up to teaching or not, I'm going to class. My Saturday students have a paper due -- their first typed essay -- and I'm not going to miss collecting it after all their hard work. (That, of course, assumes they worked hard, and I think most of them did.) My fabulous doctor called in an antibiotic to a pharmacy in Winter Park (where I am now) so I wouldn't have to wait to start clearing up my sinus infection. Probably that won't make much of a difference for tomorrow, but it will definitely help for my Monday class.
The way the schedule worked out for my class tomorrow, we have an in-class writing. Right now, I'm thinking that may be virtually all we do. I can dismiss the students early. Having them write will make my day easier tomorrow, but I'm going to have a ton of grading to do next week. I'm okay with that too. My son and granddaughters are leaving on a 5:20 a.m. flight Sunday morning -- my birthday -- and I'll have lots of free time.
