I swear, nothing will make you feel old like running around with young people. (On the other hand, I think that teaching young people kept me young for much of my life.) I started getting a sore throat last night, and today I feel like crap. Still, that didn't stop me from taking off for Legoland with my son and granddaughters. We also picked up my youngest son. Once we got on the road from Winter Park to Winter Haven -- many towns around Orlando are called Winter Something -- we realized that Legoland closed today at 5:00. There was no way we would make it before 3:00, and the price of admission is too hefty to pay for two hours of fun.
One of my students in my Saturday class was very sick with a cold or the flu, and I'm pretty sure he managed to pass it along to me, and perhaps his classmates, despite his efforts to contain his coughs and sneezes. I'm not a bit happy about that. Anyway, since we couldn't go to Legoland, we rescheduled that for tomorrow and went to Cocoa Beach. We stopped in at my sons' favorite little restaurant/tiki bar, and everyone but me spent some time on the beach. Even though the forecast in Jacksonville called for rain -- and it was raining when we left -- the weather was better farther south.
Now we're in my son's apartment, and I'm ready for bed. Whether I'm able or willing to go to Legoland tomorrow is yet to be determined. I stocked up on cold pills and cough syrup, and am doing my best to feel better. There's no way I'm going to any theme park in the heat for a day with the flu (or a bad cold, as the case may be). My youngest son has school tomorrow and can't join us. Worst case scenario is that I'll hang around his place while my oldest son takes the girls. Right now I feel like given the choice between theme park and rest, I'm going to choose the latter.
