People Who Don't Listen

I could write a book about people not listening to advice. I've stopped giving it unsolicited, and I've stopped giving it altogether to people who won't heed it. That's not what I'm talking about now. What I'm going to write about -- and just briefly -- is people who don't listen when you're talking, or who cut you off mid-sentence. My mother did this to me all the time, and I think that's part of why it bothers me. Of course, it's just plain rude anyway, so it probably bothers everyone.

I can't tell you how many sentences I've started this weekend, only to be interrupted by my travelling companion. We get along pretty well, and I'm sure I do a few things that get on her nerves too. Overall, we're having a good time, and I try to tell her gently that interrupting is obnoxious (not in those exact words), but it helps only in that particular moment. I can deal with it until tomorrow; she has to work in the afternoon and I have to get my grades finished, so we're heading back to Jacksonville tomorrow. I had a nice little time away, and I'll be happy to get home too. Lots to do . . . a change of pace has been nice. In the meantime, I don't think I'll have a lot to say. That way, getting interrupted won't be a problem.
