Florida Mountains

I'm in Mount Dora, and I saw a t-shirt through a window that said, "I survived Mount Dora, elevation 138 ft." This is a mountain in Florida. I know it's a joke, but Florida is really so flat. The only reason there's even that much elevation is that we're inland. I think my house is at 7 ft. elevation.

Anyway, Mount Dora is charming! Lots of adorable houses, lots of overpriced shops (it comes with the territory, I guess), and lot of restaurants serving all kinds of foods. My friend and I ate at a British pub -- I had fish and chips with malt vinegar, and she had a steak salad. After that, we walked around the small historic downtown area and then sat down at an outdoor table of a Cuban restaurant for cafe cubano and empanadas dolces, sweet little pies filled with guava and cheese. (I probably spelled that wrong, but you get the idea.) The air was fresh from the rain and we lingered over our coffee, relaxing and enjoying some good people-watching.

Up for tomorrow is a visit to Cassadaga and maybe a trip to the Orlando area to see a musician my friend knows -- and maybe my youngest son while we're at it. I'm having a  nice break but am also working, finishing my grading. Everything is ready for my new class. Sorry for fading out, but I'm tired and planning to get up early in the morning. Enjoy your weekend!
