Every evening this week, it's rained in Tampa. Usually I don't care too much about the weather in Tampa, but I've been here since Sunday -- and I'm tired of it! (The weather, not Tampa. Tampa is fine.) I know it's been raining a lot in Jacksonville too, but at home I don't have to go out for much; my preference is always to stay inside during heavy rain when I can. This evening I thought the rain might start later. It's our dine-out night (most of my nights have been at least "snack-out" nights because the cafeteria food is disgusting), and I was going to go to a Cuban restaurant just up the block. I'm not a weather-wimp, but the way it's raining right now, I couldn't walk five steps without being soaked. In this kind of rain an umbrella doesn't do much good. The wind is blowing and the rain is sideways. Oh, and the lightning is close and fierce.
There is a restaurant in the hotel -- nothing fancy except the prices -- and my company will reimburse me up to $25.00. I'd much rather go out, so I'm going to wait a few minutes and see what happens, but I'll probably end up compromising on something I'm not in the mood for just to stay dry and make an early night of it. Every night there has been some kind of social activity; I've attended none of them. I've chatted with lots of different people, but for some reason I've been resistant to going to any organized event. While the people are nice (for the most part), I'm feeling more rebellious than usual on this trip, no doubt at least in part because of my bad experience last time.
Well, outside is looking a little bright after all! Oh, but I just pulled back the curtain and saw a close flash of lightning. I guess my decision is made. I'll try the Cuban restaurant another time.
