I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know. If I had more self-discipline, I would eat fifty or fewer carbs every day. My meals (and snacks) would consist of lean protein, fruit, and vegetables -- only a little fruit. I know vegetables have carbs too but, seriously, if I got my carbs from only vegetables and even fruit, for that matter, I would be happy. Or would I? As I said in my title, carbs are delicious! Today I was working hard around the house and on the computer, and by early afternoon I was starving. I broke down and ordered Domino's -- for the second time in just over a week. I had a steak and cheese sub -- not something I eat often, and I burned off all the calories with heavy housecleaning and furniture moving -- and almost immediately wanted to take a nap. That's the downside of carbs, or at least "bad" carbs. Well, that and the weight they make me gain.
As I get older, and now that I don't work out, I notice that my body has a harder time with carbs than ever. It doesn't help that the carbs (like those I had today) are often accompanied by fat and sodium. I suppose if I don't eat like that every day, or even most days, it's not so bad. And sometimes it really does feel like a treat. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm finally going to indulge in that nap.
