Day of Distraction

Sometimes I like to be pleasantly distracted; today was one of those days. I'm in Orlando, and I have mostly given up on the idea of getting any work completed. My son and his girlfriend came over to spend the day with me, and he is taking her home and coming back to the condo to spend the night. He took tomorrow off. Of course I wasn't going to tell him not to, that I have things to do. I haven't seen him in a few months, and spending time together is more important than whatever paperwork I need to take care of. It will get done on the weekend -- along with my grading. I'll enjoy whatever bits of "mommy and me time" I can get.

Tomorrow we're going to find something to do together. I'm fine with just going to the pool in the morning and hanging out in the room in the afternoon. I have to leave early on Friday (and he will go back to his own place near Orlando tomorrow night) because I have two appointments, one with my cardiologist and one for a mammogram. Yeehaw! Actually, it won't be bad. The first appointment is just a check-up to make sure my blood pressure meds are working. As for the mammogram, it's no big deal and once it's done I won't have to worry about it for a year.

Today I drove from Jacksonville to Orlando, not a bad drive except that my air conditioner stopped working halfway here and it was 93 degrees. We got checked in and went to the Moroccan restaurant I've wanted to visit since I found out about it months ago. It wasn't fancy but the food and service were good. And I was thrilled to revisit some of my favorite Moroccan dishes. My son and his girlfriend had never had Moroccan food, and they loved it. We came back and had a nice swim -- and I did the waterslide three or four times -- until the storms hit. I was fine with that. A few hours in the pool was plenty for me. After watching a vintage basketball game (guess whose plan that was!), we headed back down to the poolside grill for a light dinner. We had a nice walk around the lake, stopping to watch some baby (and adult) ducks running up and down the hill by the lake. It's been a great day, and I will sleep well tonight!
