The Only Logical Thing to Do

I leave in three days; my suitcases are on my living room table, half-packed; my bedroom is half-empty, as I've moved (most of) my yarn to the storage unit along with other not-immediately-necessary items. I'll sort through everything after I've finished renovations and move back in what I want to keep. I have a huge (and heavy) box to donate that I just put in my car. My head is swirling. I'm trying to make sure I take care of whatever I need to before I leave, but I've been at it since 8:00 this morning (it's now just after 3:00), and I can't do anything else productive. I'm a bit of a basket case.

In such a circumstance, there's only one logical thing I can think of to do: start a difficult crochet pattern. I belong to a CAL (crochet along, in craft parlance) group on Facebook, and I always see the most beautiful projects. I've never started any of them. For the most part, they involve buying yarn to suit the pattern; I have so much yarn I can't justify buying more -- usually. But I saw one CAL that really caught my eye. It's call the Carousel CAL, and I decided the cost of the yarn was worth it, even though I had to do four separate orders. No single online shop had every color, and there are a lot! I put it all in a huge tote bag, along with a print-out of the pattern. I don't intend to take it with me, as it's just too big to work on easily while traveling, but I'm in the mood to at least get it started. (I am taking a small project with me, yarn and patterns for hats to donate.)

So as I sit in the midst of this mess, I'm going to spend the next few hours doing something creative and focus my mental energy on that. I know the bags won't finish packing themselves, the boxes won't jump to the donation center, and the yarn won't find its own way to the storage unit. But it will all wait until tomorrow when I have the time and feel-like-it to get those things done. It's a chilly day here too, perfect for crocheting.
