Before I left on my trip, I checked the weather. I had bought my plane ticket a few days before Christmas, but for some reason I kept thinking I might back out of traveling. Anyway, at that point there wasn't much I could do about the weather if I did go (which, of course, I did); however, the forecast showed no sign of snow for the duration of my travel time. Last night I started to hear rumors of snow, and today's weather showed a winter weather advisory for tonight into tomorrow morning. It isn't snowing yet (at just before six in the evening) but overnight accumulations may reach two and a half inches. That's probably not a big deal, especially as I discovered that my rental car has four-wheel drive. As we rode around town today, my son found that it also has XM radio; that won't help in the snow, but it's nice to have.
We've had a fun day of being semi-productive, semi-lazy, and somewhat gluttonous. Tomorrow night the girls will come back (they've been with their mom this week) and we'll all have some fun this weekend. I'll be glad to see them, but I'm also glad to have some time alone with my oldest son, the one I rarely get to spend "Mommy and me" time with. Even so, I'm already hating the cold weather; on Sunday, the high will be twenty-three, rough when I'm used to Florida winters. I did bring my big wool coat, scarf, and gloves, so I'm ready to deal with it, and I saw on the Jacksonville forecast the high temperature there on Sunday is only supposed to be forty-six. Anything below sixty is too cold for me, so in a weird way that forecast makes the weather here a bit more tolerable.
Tonight is the grown-up calm-before-the-kid-storm time, and we're watching a movie. And eating popcorn. And maybe cannoli.
