For the first time in my life, I missed a flight. It was a 5:45 a.m. flight, but still! I've taken early flights before. I got to the airport around 5:00 and had already checked in online. I tried to check my bag at the curb and the attendant said it was too late. He tried, but he was right -- no dice. The outcome wasn't entirely bad; I was scheduled for a 2:20 p.m. flight, ticketed and ready to go -- nearly nine hours later. So I went home and tried to go back to sleep but that was a bust.
My blessing was that I was able to get a flight later today; my curse was that I arrived in DC at rush hour. The usually-forty-five minute drive to my son's house took nearly two hours. It's freezing here but I'm toasty warm in my son's living room, getting ready to enjoy some carry-out from our favorite Mexican restaurant. I have no doubt I'll be asleep soon after that.
