Today, about two hours ago, I gave my last final of this very long semester. Part of me is saying, "Woohoo!" but the other part is just saying, "Whew!" Of course, I still have some "ciphering" to do (totaling up final grades), but the big stuff is done and I don't have to go back to either campus for several weeks. I would be more outwardly excited if I hadn't brought home a special gift from the hospital: a lousy case of the flu. It came on quick too! Yesterday morning I had a bit of a cough, which I thought might have been from my new blood pressure medicine. I've heard some types have that side effect. But by evening, I felt like I was coughing up razor blades. I was pretty sure that wasn't a medication side effect. Pile on a fever, body aches, headache, and nasal congestion and I'm a big mess.
Missing my last final today was not an option, so I put on the comfiest clothes I could find that didn't look like pajamas and headed off. Thank God my students finished in just over an hour. As soon as I finish this post, I'm taking more medicine and heading straight for the sofa. Tomorrow is soon enough to total up and post grades. For now I just want to feel better and celebrate the end of a grueling semester. I'm hoping that this flu goes away as quickly as it came on!
