I should know not to watch the news. But I'm not a big fan of daytime television, and I'm super-sick with the flu, so TV seemed like the only option and unfortunately I ended up on the news. When it wasn't about Orangehead, it was about Russia. Even worse was the story of the young man who killed so many people in a South Carolina church. I was glad he was found guilty, but the entire story is just awful. As you may know, I am not a religious person; however, I do understand and respect others' religious choices. A church should be the safest of havens, and to be welcomed in to join prayer/Bible class, as this young man was, and then kill those who were doing nothing but practicing their love of and joy in Christ is the most awful kind of crime. In general, I don't believe in the death penalty, but if a state has it (as South Carolina does) on the books, there are few crimes I can think of in which the perpetrator deserves it more than in this one. Some idiot on CNN, a "legal expert", said that because the jury is made up of ten women and two men, the killer may have a better chance of being sentenced to life in prison, as women (especially those who are mothers) would have a more difficult time sentencing a young man to death. I found this very condescending.
Okay, back to the sofa for me. My head is spinning. I'm going to find a nice, happy movie -- no more news.
