Sun Through the Window

It's nearly 5:00 on Sunday afternoon, and I just awoke from a long nap. Most of the west-facing side of my house is made up of windows, and on chilly days like today, resisting the sleep-inducing effect of the sun pouring in all afternoon is nearly impossible. Of course, as nice as all that sun is on cool days, it's not so great on hot days; my house is hard to keep cool in summertime, even with sun-blocking curtains at the dining room window and closed mini-blinds in my patio door. Anyway, last week was exhausting, so today I didn't even try to resist the "sun-nap". If my son hadn't called, I probably would have slept longer -- and I might go back to sleep after I write this.

This is the sunniest house I've ever lived in. Other houses where I've lived have had enough windows to be an average amount sunny (which may not be phrased great, but I think you know what I mean). The house I lived in immediately before this one was almost cave-like, which made this house especially attractive. It is so bright and cheerful, and the new white tile I had put down throughout at least doubles the effect. I love that I went for the textured tile; it lightens up the rooms without adding the glare that a smooth tile would have.

Tonight our temperatures are supposed to be in the low forties -- pretty low for Florida. Before the sun sets, I'm going to open all my curtains and windows in an effort to let in (and maybe preserve) the last rays of the day's sun. I'm very stubborn about turning on my heat, although I never hesitate to turn on the air conditioner. I'll probably have to crank up a little heat in the morning, but today it's not cold enough to need it, especially with the sun pouring in through the windows. Stay warm, friends.
