Not JUST Because I'm Old

My son and I went to see a movie in the theater today, something I rarely do. The movie was good, but our fellow movie-goers drove me crazy! I kept thinking that I may be too old and crochety to go to movies anymore; it's been quite a long time since I've been. I probably average two a year, maybe less. But when we left, my son told me that it wasn't just me. Those people truly had been annoying. There was an elderly lady next to me who, as I told my son, "kept rubbing her pleather shoes together, cricket-style". "Oh," he said. "That's what that was!" People kept talking, which was especially annoying since the sound wasn't especially loud on the movie. Someone's cell phone rang (inevitable, I guess). The couple behind us kept loudly digging into their popcorn bag.

I know I can be easily irritated sometimes, but this son in particular has the patience of a saint. If he was bothered, I felt a lot better! I suppose it comes with the territory when one goes to a matinee, especially in Florida -- a bunch of old folks who can't hear well and who rub their feet together. We enjoyed our "mommy and me" time (and of course my sons love it when I call my time with any one of them that) and the movie, The Accountant with Ben Affleck. He is going back home tomorrow, and I will have a lot of grading to catch up on, grading I could have done during my week off. Instead, I spent that time relaxing alone and with family. Even though it will make for a super-busy Sunday through Tuesday, I have no regrets.
