Today has been a total wash. When I woke up, I didn't want to get out of bed, and as it turned out, that may have been my best course of action. Not really, I suppose. On my way to work, I heard a weird squealing noise coming from my car. I had heard the noise yesterday too but convinced myself it was coming from a car near me on the road. Today there were no cars near me and the noise was louder than before. Not wanting to be stranded between home and work, I passed the on-ramp where I would usually turn to go to work and headed to the mechanic's shop just about a quarter-mile past. It turned out the squealing was the AC hose. My water pump had cracked and was leaking onto the hose. Oy. Another $500 I would have preferred not to spend right now.
On the other hand, I will likely be traveling north at Christmastime, and I do occasionally go to Winter Park to visit one of my sons, so to find out the water pump was broken while I was close to home was better than otherwise. I missed my classes (bad) but took care of what could have been a much bigger problem (good). I had to spend too much money (bad) but I had room on my credit card (good). I had to wait forever (bad because I didn't have any ungraded papers with me) but I met several nice, interesting people who felt like chatting (good).
I might get a few meaningless chores taken care of this afternoon, but overall I'm giving up and starting over tomorrow.
