Get Real

It's been a while since I've talked about anything here that has any real significance. What I mean is that I talk about my life and situations I encounter, and I alway hope that those things will make people think about life or people in a different way and/or show them that at least one other person shares the experiences they may go through, or something like them. Now I'm going to shift gears and talk about politics. I don't claim to be an expert, but I am an American and a human being, and in this election I think those qualities are enough to give me the authority to speak.

How any rational person can even consider voting for Donald Trump? I am not a big Hillary fan, and I am disgusted with the Democratic Party for their early endorsement of her to the exclusion of other candidates in the primaries. However, I get the whole "greater good" argument, and I also don't think the president alone leads the nation. An intelligent person (which I think Hillary is) accepts --or at least considers -- the advice of others who are more expert than she in certain areas. This is the biggest problem I see with a Trump presidency: I don't think he will see anyone as being more expert than he in any area, and I doubt that he would take the advice of those "others", making the president more of a dictator or a monarch than an actual leader with advisors. I can't think of a single Trump supporter to whom I could explain this in a way that would give them pause when it comes to voting for him.

My guess is that Trump thought, "Hmm. . . what haven't I done yet? I know! I'll be president." Of course he couldn't do that without a support base, and the fact that he has one is the scariest thing about this election. To be a hateful racist misogynist and be winning votes says something about those who are casting those votes. What blows me away is that many of those supporters are the ones who will be most hurt by his policies -- to the extent that he's actually expressed policies. I could get into a lot of name-calling, but I won't. I could insult Trump's appearance, but I won't. The real thing I think we all need to look at is his character -- or rather, lack thereof. Okay, I'll step off my soapbox now, just had to get that off my chest.
