I know it sound cliche to say so, but I feel like I have a new lease on life. Now that my four-day killer headache has subsided, I'm savoring the world as if I've been away from it for decades. This afternoon I sat on my porch and stared at the clear blue sky, pondering the enormity of it. I sat on my "orbital lounger" (which I think I've described before) and gently rocked, taking in the spiky tree branches, the few remaining blooms on the bougainvillea, even my poorly-manicured back yard. (Now that it's cooled down -- to the high eighties -- I might get it cut this weekend.) I know it probably sounds silly, but after four days of barely being able to open my eyes, it's like seeing everything for the first time.
My floors got their final measurement today, so I'm hoping to have my tile in by the end of next week. We'll see. Yesterday I got a letter from my bank asking why the repairs had not been completed for inspection. So far, I haven't said anything, but when I do pipe up, I will say something about how it took three months from when I filed the claim for them to send me the check, and it still wasn't enough. I still have not been reimbursed for my out-of-pocket expenses and furniture damage. Idiots. Anyway, my friend came over to help me go through some junk and get it out of the way for tile installation. My other friend is coming to dinner tomorrow. He loves my cooking, although it may not be as savory as usual; I accidently put a dash of pumpkin pie spice instead of nutmeg into my ricotta mixture for the stuffed shells. Oh, well. All my spices are currently in a soft-sided cooler and I grabbed the wrong thing.
What was sort of a crappy mid-week turned around nicely just in time for the weekend. Of course, I will have work to catch up on -- no big deal. I need to catch up on rest too. Other than tire repair and having my friend over for dinner, I have no plans. Getting my work done won't be a problem and -- who knows -- I may even have time for a dip in the pool. That sounds really nice.
