I like all versions of this song, but the one I like most is by Imelda May and Jeff Beck. Check it out on Youtube.
The reason I'm thinking of it today is that the idea of the title is the only thing getting me through this long work week. I keep reminding myself that these long shifts -- thirteen hours today! -- will pay for my vacation, and the best part is I'll feel like I really earned that vacation. At the moment, I'm waiting for my third shift of the day to begin. I started work at 8:15, had a 15-minute break, logged off and back on at 12:45, had another 15-minute break, and logged off at 5:15. My next shift, which I found out about only this morning, is from 5:30-9:30, with one 15-minute break. Tomorrow I'll have the same first two shifts, but in the evening I'll be doing the dissertation edit I mentioned a few days ago. The client hasn't gotten it to me yet, so we pushed back the timeline.
As it is now 5:26, and I've had very little to eat today, I'm going to use the next four minutes to find something worthy of consumption. The other part of being so busy is that I haven't had time to go to the grocery store, but I'm going to try to fit that in before my 8:30 a.m. shift-start tomorrow. For now, it's back to dreaming about the fruits of my labor, walking on white sand on the Baja Peninsula. Man, I hope this is a good vacation!
