Nothing big has happened, but I've had one of the best weeks of my life! Many small things have added up to and contributed to a sense of contentment I hadn't felt for a long time. The week hasn't been without problems -- I'm on the phone with Comcast right now and have been for the past half hour as the agent attempts to figure out why I got an email saying Comcast had received my request to cancel all services, a request I never made -- but overall it's been really good.
I touch on the highlights: I found out after I sent my blunt (but polite) email yesterday that I wasn't the only one excluded from interviews; a full-time person from another campus took the position so no interviews were conducted. That's good. Still, it would have been nice if someone on the campus had let those of us who applied know that. When my assistant dean answered that email, she also apologized profusely for encoding me for two classes I didn't know about. Earlier in the week, I found out I was given four classes at the campus nearest me (just five minutes away) for fall, also fantastic news. After my Tuesday night class, one of my students came to my desk after class to tell me how much he had enjoyed that night's session. All is good with work. I'll never make a lot of money as a college instructor, but that's okay. It's those less tangible rewards that keep me at it.
Everywhere I've been, everyone has just been so nice. I won't go into all the tiny details. These people who take the time to help and be kind make all the difference in anyone's life, and this week I've taken special notice of them. Even my cardiologist, who isn't usually pleasant, wasn't half-bad when I saw him earlier this week. Sometimes I wonder if life is like this all the time and I'm just not always paying attention. Feeling so happy and content makes me want to pay more attention. And just for good measure, I'm sending some happiness your way too.
