Ringing in the New

New Year's Eve hasn't been one of my favorite holidays for a long time. For probably four of the past five years I didn't even stay up until midnight. Last year I did, and when the new year came in I stood in my driveway and looked at the stars and the top bits of fireworks from the beach I could see over the trees. This year, it's raining and I'm not planning to go out, not even into my front yard. My son and I have decided to have a board game tournament, to the extent two people can have a tournament. We also got a movie, went to lunch and a movie earlier in the day, and made a quick grocery store run for snacks. It may not be the most exciting New Year's Eve I've ever had, but that's fine, as many of my exciting Eves were exciting in a bad way. I'm happy to have my son here for another day and also to be spending one more holiday with him.

If you're reading this, my hope for you is that you have a safe and happy celebration tonight, and that all good things come to you in the new year. Goodbye until next year!
