Orbital Lounge

A few months ago, I bought a porch chair on Overstock. It sat around in the box for quite some time; I thought it would require extensive assembly (which it turned out not to) and I was waiting until my young associate could help with it. It's called an Orbital Lounger, and it's kind of hard to describe. It looks like a long piece of mesh somehow held together by two crossed circles. After my young associate put it together -- which took all of about ten minutes and mostly involved just opening the box -- he sat in it and declared it a little slice of heaven. Because it rocks, and this was shortly after my foot surgery, I was hesitant to try it. I was afraid I'd get in and not be able to get out. The following weekend my son tried it out and he too said it was relaxing beyond belief.

Finally, a few days ago, I thought I'd give it a try. Both boys were right: Sitting in that chair is like floating on a cloud. Today the weather was so beautiful that -- between doing work for my classes and cleaning the garage -- I took breaks to just lie in the chair. I can't even call it "sitting" because the feeling is so different. I think it's a zero-gravity kind of thing. I'm not kidding; I rocked ever-so-slightly with my eyes closed and felt as if I had been transported to an island. I didn't care about anything.

When I bought the chair, it was on clearance for about forty dollars. I looked it up yesterday and it now costs $136. I had thought I might get another one since everyone loves it so much, but now I'm going to hold off on that. I wouldn't mind having one in my living room, or perhaps in my home office. If I spent some time every day in the chair, I think my creativity and productivity would go through the roof. For now, though, I'll have to choose the best weather moments (and we're supposed to have many this week) to go out to my porch, my new orbital lounge.
