With my surgery scheduled for Friday, I've been working hard to get everything ready -- my house, pantry, and my wardrobe. I didn't feel a great sense of urgency. My only paid work this summer has been a small bit of writing and editing, and it felt like I had nothing but time. This morning, however, my doctor's office called. He wants to move my surgery up to Wednesday -- this Wednesday, two days from today! Apparently he has overbooked, and I'm not sure why I'm one of the patients who has to move, but it looks like if I can't line everything up just right for Wednesday, I would have to wait another few weeks. That won't do.
I'm waiting for my son to call me on his break to let me know if we can work that out, but the reality is that if we can't, I'll have to find someone else. I have three appointments on Wednesday that I'll have to cancel/reschedule, my appointment with the anesthesiologist is tomorrow morning, and now it seems that I have no time to get anything ready. The upside of having the surgery on Wednesday is that I can get it over with and stop worrying about it, and of course my foot can be on the way to healing. I'm trying hard to see this as a good thing, and to line up my ducks as best I can.
