The Long Day Winding Yarn

That I had too much yarn was no surprise to me. What was a surprise was the tangled mess it had transformed into. It's nearly 6:00 p.m. and I've been untangling yarn since 8:30 this morning. The worst part was that I had saved lengths much too short to work with. Their only purpose was to make a mess of the larger skeins. I threw away the tiny scraps, put some of the cheaper skeins in the Goodwill bag (I'm on number 3 now, just from cleaning my room), and put some of the longer scraps in a bag to donate to the library's craft program. I'm still not finished, but I've had enough for today.

I gave my son's girlfriend a tiny bikini -- one that I was wearing only a few years ago -- and a cute top. The consignment shop section of my closet is growing every day. My dropoff appointment is June 23, and all I need to do is iron a few items before then. I seriously love ironing, but I love it less when the temperature is nearly 100 degrees. My new AC unit is doing a good job but I don't feel compelled to have my appliances fight it out. I'll hope for a cooler day between now and then.

If I had been working this hard on clearing my house of clutter for even the past few months, my house would already be clutter-free. But, as I tell my kids, I can't do it any sooner; I can only keep from doing it later. A nice bonus of going through the yarn now is that I'm seeing what I have available -- none of it does any good when it's just piled in a bin -- and I can plan some projects to work on while I need to stay off my feet. I was thinking I'd go crazy with boredom while my foot heals, but having a mission will make the time pass faster. That reminds me of another thought I had today, but I think I'll save that for another post.
