Bustin' Through

In the past two days, I've made more decluttering progress than I have in the past two years. My upcoming foot surgery has inspired me to get stuff out of the way, and as I do so I'm sorting and sifting into bags to get rid of in various places. Two big lawn bags full of clothes and shoes are in my car waiting for a Monday drop-off at Goodwill, and a large segment of my closet is occupied by items I'll iron to take to the local consignment shop (where I have $70 waiting from my last dropoff). Three bikinis -- all pink, of course -- are waiting on my bed to be photographed and posted on eBay. It isn't that I don't clean my house and try to declutter; it's just that I don't always know what to do with everything, or I can't push myself to get rid of much.

After dealing with my mom's house, my resolve is stronger than ever to get rid of things I don't need, starting with clothes that haven't fit in five years. If, someday, I once again wear a size 8, I'll buy new clothes. Having said that, I have to admit that there are a few special items I'm saving. I'm limiting those items to ten. I think that's reasonable. I'm stashing them in a dresser drawer in my guest room and will revisit them from time to time to see if I still care enough to keep them. My goal for today is to get all my clothes in my dresser and closet, not have any lying around. After that, it's time to deal with the yarn. Not my favorite activity for a Sunday but certainly a fruitful one. By the time I have my surgery, my house will be free from obstructions and -- bonus -- much more pleasant and relaxing to recuperate in.
