Yarn-bombed

Despite my social embarrassment yesterday, I went out in public again today. My son's band was playing at a festival at the beach and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I was a bit rushed because I went to the vet with my youngest son and his cat. (The cat is fine; she has a bad skin allergy.) Because I didn't want to wear beach clothes to the vet's office and didn't have time to change, I was dressed more for February in Florida than mid-May. It was just as well. I didn't intend to stay long anyway. I ran into people I knew -- most of them folks I've met through the band, but a few I know otherwise -- and the band did a really good job. When they started there was no one around the stage, but by the time they finished, a big crowd had gathered. I rarely drink (and, yes, I probably say that here every time I do!) but couldn't resist the "alcohol Slurpees". I told my middle son later that I used my feminine wiles to get free drinks. I admitted later that I happened to know the guy working the drink tent and he hooked me up. I didn't care; I had already bought the tokens that aren't good for anything else. I just passed those along to the band. Anyway, two of those drinks in the sun on an empty stomach was enough. We all got a nice meal after the band played and I switched to tea.

Thinking it would be nice for the boys to spend some time together, I offered to come back and pick up the youngest one if he wanted to come home later. At my house, all three dogs and my cat and my son's sick cat were waiting, and as I walked in the door, the first thing I saw was wall-to-wall yarn. I had a few projects next to my chair and Jean-Claude had torn the yarn from every bag and done his best to strew it around every piece of furniture. I was quite surprised by my lack of reaction. Uppermost in my mind was that I'm going away in a few days and my middle son and his girlfriend are keeping Mazie for me for three weeks. She doesn't cause that kind of trouble, but I'm sure she'll find a different kind and I'm not going to stress about the mess their dog made. I'm dreading traveling -- so much so that I haven't done any packing -- so I was glad to have something to do other than get ready. For the past two hours I've been winding yarn into balls. It's a pain, but it's better than doing the other things I need to. My procrastination is in full swing, and I do know I'll have a lot to do tomorrow and Monday. But I don't need to do anything else tonight.
