A Day in the Park

Today we all had a bit of cabin fever, so we went to the park for a few hours. I thought it would be fun to watch my granddaughters play -- and it was -- but I hadn't thought that my son and I would join in the fun. As soon as we got there I jumped on a swing. (Thank goodness the park has been recently updated and the swings are well-supported!) I can't remember the last time I was on a swing; it was so much fun. I was going very high and told my granddaughter it made my stomach feel funny. She said, "That's just what happens when you swing." I probably knew that; I'd just forgotten. I climbed on the monkey bars and on some crazy sideways thing. My son took a picture of me at the top of the monkey bars. He got into the spirit too, swinging and climbing. Probably every adult's life would be better with more swinging and climbing.

After the park we went to the ice cream shop in the old downtown section. We all would have preferred to go somewhere else (to my family's annual picnic, for example), but with my rental car situation not working out as expected and my son's car misbehaving -- it has a mechanical problem that is keeping all the doors except the passenger from opening (along with a few other glitches), which is a shame because it's a nice BMW that runs well -- I don't feel comfortable taking it very far. My son is hoping to hang out with friends tonight. I don't mind; I don't expect him to entertain me every minute I'm here and I know he's ready for a little time out of the house -- other than just to the park. Here I am, five days into my trip, and I still haven't been to my mother's house. We're going up tomorrow and I'll assess the current state before calling a realtor. I'm already missing my bed (and my pets), but I need to deal with my mission. Today was as fun as we could make it -- for the kids and the grownups -- but tomorrow it's time to get down to business.
