Happy Longer Day!

I hadn't really noticed how much more daylight we suddenly have until I was leaving my class tonight. When I started teaching a month ago, the sky was fully dark when we got out at 6:35; now there is a tinge of light. When the time changes in a few weeks -- or is that next week? -- I will be home before dark! This excites me more than I can say. We've had a lot of cloudy weather (and I'm not complaining, just saying) so even in the middle of the day it's been dark, or at least dismal. I suppose that's why I hadn't noticed the change before now.

My new class started today, and other than the accommodations (we were in a tiny room), everything was perfect. I never would have thought three hours teaching freshmen could have flown by, but it really did. And these students are just as nice and as dedicated as those in my evening class. I love teaching at this campus; if only it weren't so far! After the earlier class, I did two great things for my students: made sure we would be in a better (larger) classroom for the rest of the term, and told the bookstore that my students weren't able to get the books I had ordered for them because the bookstore was sold out. Again. Ridiculous! My students will be so happy that we are in a better space, and while I'm not sure my badgering the bookstore will do any good, at least they (the students) know I'm trying to help.

For the next two months (or just under), I'm going to be buried in work. Between prep and grading, I don't have time to do my other jobs. I don't care. This is fun, being back in a classroom. In the new class, a student told me I should be a preacher. I said, "I am a preacher, spreading the gospel of good communication!" The class laughed. Another said I was pretty funny -- or maybe he said fun, I'm not sure -- and I said, "I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so." This first day just couldn't have been better. I can't believe I get paid to do this! But it's okay, I don't feel guilty. I don't get paid that much.
