Flicks

Having recently bought a Blu-ray player, after over a year of not have any kind of DVD player, I've been catching up on movies. I have a Netflix account, but there were a few flicks I wanted to see that weren't available there. So I've hit the Redbox a few times this week. Tonight's feature was The Equalizer with Denzel Washington. I was a fan of the TV show of the same name in the eighties, so I wanted to see how it played out on the big screen. I liked it; Denzel was good in the role, and the movie was action packed -- if a bit gory. It was different from the other movies I watched this week, so it's hard to say whether it was better or worse. It was entertaining.

My first choice this week was Gone Girl and I like that one too. I would say it was the least predictable of the three I watched, but I also have to say I didn't like the ending. I don't want to say too much about it because suspense and surprise contribute to the viewer's enjoyment. I wouldn't want to ruin that. But I will say there was some serious crazy going on there.

In the middle of those two shows, I watched Nightcrawler. I like Jake G-- sorry, I'm not even going to try to spell his name. Usually he's a good guy, and in this movie he was a real creep -- a creepy creep. Again, because the movie is suspenseful, I don't want to say too much about it. I enjoyed it.

I'm going to chill out on the movies for a while. Trying out my new player has been fun, but I want to go out in the real world and find some suspense, action, and surprise. The crazy, I can do without.
