41 Fahrenheit

This was the high temperature in Jacksonville today. I'm not sure that anything in particular happens at 41 degrees (as with 451, for example) except that it's too cold for Florida. We broke a record last night, and my heat has been running all day, which is pretty rare. I'm grateful our temperatures are higher than those in most of the country, but seriously, this is too cold. I'm not going to complain. I feel fortunate to have a warm house and a pot of chicken soup simmering on the stove.

What's really weird is that it's supposed to be over seventy tomorrow and eighty on Sunday. It's crazy! I just saw on the news that the ocean temperature is fifty-four, not warm enough for dipping, but I bet if I go to the beach tomorrow I'll see surfers out in their wetsuits. Next week we'll be back to chilly weather -- of course, it's going to rain on Tuesday, one of my class days -- but I hope this cold shot hits the road soon. A man I used to date loved the cold, and when I complained about fifty degrees, he would tell me I needed to move somewhere like Fiji where it's always hot. I've never actually been to Fiji, but I'm nearly ready to take that advice.
