After a lot of thinking -- and at least as much eye rolling -- I've decided to push back my trip home by a week. I've been sick nearly since I got here, which isn't really the problem. I could probably finish what I need to do by the middle of next week, so that's also not really the problem. On Monday, there are supposed to be ice storms throughout this area; then on Wednesday and Thursday, snow. The three or so inches of snow we got on Wednesday morning are still on the ground because the temperature hasn't gotten above freezing since then. A little ice and some more snow on top of that will make a big mess, something I have no intention of driving in. I do have four-wheel drive but that doesn't help on ice.
This weekend we are clearing out attics and closets. I've been so focused on getting stuff out of my mom's room, the living room, and the dining room that I haven't done much anywhere else. I can put a few extra days to good use, and then be done with it. Anything I want to take with me will go now and I won't have to come back except to sign paperwork. My oldest son is going to ride back with me and spend a few days helping out; he'll fly back just in time to start his new job. I'm glad he's going. Even when I feel well, it's an exhausting trip. So I'm not excited about staying longer, especially in this extreme cold, but I'll be glad to have it behind me. Overall, it's a good thing.
