The hardest part of keeping a daily blog is probably obvious: You have to think of something to write about every day. Some days I do better than others. It isn't always lack of topic that stumps me. There are days when I have plenty on my mind; I just don't want to write about it. Such is the case today, as I wait patiently -- or maybe not -- for my knee to heal. I have written about that for the past two days, and really don't want to talk about it anymore. But before I stop talking about it, I will say that it's worse today than yesterday, more swollen and painful. I spent another day doing mostly nothing (although my son's crocheted blanket is progressing nicely) and had to cancel an appointment for tomorrow related to my new teaching job. It's not a big deal, but it will be if it doesn't get better soon.
Instead I'm going to talk about "the beautiful place". I may have mentioned this last Christmas. There's a neighborhood near mine where virtually everyone participates in decorating with lights, and in the most unusual ways. The neighborhood is nondescript in the daytime, but at nights this time of year it turns into a wonderland. A canopy of stars hangs over the streets, strands of lights are hung straight down from branches to create a beautiful and interesting display, and one house even screens How the Grinch Stole Christmas on its roof. My son, his girlfriend, and one of my friends are coming over on Saturday and I'm going to try to talk them into taking a ride with me to see it. My son's girlfriend has a good-quality camera, so maybe she can take some pictures that I can share here. I'd love to be able to take all of you along with me. Maybe a video would be a good way to do that.
