Despite not having done any paid work this week (I hadn't been able to schedule anything because of my jury duty assignment, which I didn't have to attend), I managed to be very productive. In addition to getting a job -- part-time but fairly lucrative -- I took care of two persistent problems. My yard has been kind of a mess for a few years, since my first shoulder surgery. I tried to catch up, but I was not managing it well. I knew that if I could get some help to get it back in order, I'd be able to maintain it. Enter my friend who did some cleaning while I was away. She came over earlier this week and power-washed my back porch and the back of the house. Together we raked and mowed and weeded and did whatever else needed to be done, including pulling down the old fence at the back of the yard. This morning she came over and we went to Home Depot to rent a truck. We put all the junk in the truck and went to the landfill, unloaded everything, and returned the truck. Both of us are tired and achy (she's just a few years younger than I am), but the results are phenomenal. The yard looks fantastic.
The other issue was my son's old car, which has been sitting in my driveway for months. As of about three hours ago, it's in his driveway and no longer my problem. I don't know what he's going to do with it, and I don't care. My homeowners' association had been bothering me about it and I have other things to worry about; now the front of the house (including the driveway) is ready to be power-washed, and I've regained that space too, in addition to the yard.
These may seem like minor things, but they have been a pain in my ass for a long time. I finally had the time and the help to take care of them. It isn't just that it's nice to have them taken care of. After all that hard work and productivity, I feel strong and able to do nearly anything. Onward!
