Hanging with the Young Folk

I believe I may have talked more today than I have in the past week. I had several nice conversations early in the day -- one with my cousin; we have vowed to stay in closer touch -- and then this evening my young associate dropped by for a visit. He arrived at the same time my son and his girlfriend came over. I rarely have guests, and my little pets were very confused. My son and his girlfriend didn't stay long, but my young associate hung around for nearly two hours and we had a nice chat on the back porch -- not realizing we were being chewed alive by mosquitos until we came inside. Mosquitos in November? Come on!

I like to have company and to go out, and I occasionally wonder why I don't do more of both. In fact, I've probably wondered it here. But tomorrow night, two friends are joining me first for dinner and afterwards for my son's band's show. Other than my friends (and my ex-husband, who is allegedly going to be there), I will probably be the only person under thirty in the club. I could be wrong about that because my son's band is opening for a well-known Talking Heads cover band, so they may have an older following. I don't care either way. I like to hang with young people, and I think one of the reasons I felt younger than my years for so long (which isn't necessarily the case now) is that, as a college instructor, I was constantly around young people.

So I have a big week coming up: my son's band tomorrow night, an arts event downtown on Saturday, a volunteer board meeting on Monday, Orlando on Tuesday, and -- best of all -- off to Santa Fe early Wednesday morning for a whole week of adventure. So much to look forward to!
