Burnin' Down the House

I smoked a cheesecake today -- not on purpose. I'm hoping that, as it chills overnight, the smoky smell (and taste) burns off. Something, maybe the butter in the gingersnap crust, dripped onto the oven element and it took me several hours to get all the smoke out of my house. The worst part is that I'll have to clean the oven tomorrow morning before I roast (not smoke) the turkey.

On the plus side, roasting the turkey is pretty much all I have left to do. I bought stuffing (and it's fantastic; I tried it tonight. It tastes like my grandmother's stuffing) and made the sides, other than the mashed potatoes, and the dessert. I'm only serving one dessert this year. Is that wrong? I've never made less than two. Because I was away for my vacation, I thought it would be a good idea to schedule nearly every day this month I could for scoring work. I will be glad when I get paid, but it's stressful now, especially with jury duty starting (and maybe ending) on Monday.

Working is good, being busy is good. My schedule is always weird and unpredictable. I need to work when I can. I'm off tomorrow and really looking forward to spending a quiet day with family, grateful for many things.
