A Traveling Little Lady

Finally tonight we have set up my granddaughter's travel plans! When I use the words "finally" and "we" in the same sentence, you should assume that I am the peripheral part of the "we" that wasn't on the ball. My son was finding it very frustrating to schedule a flight, and when I took some time to poke around today I realized why. For a twelve-year-old to fly alone, many planes require an unaccompanied minors fee, around $100-150 each way. Some airlines don't allow it at all, and some make the service available but not mandatory for children over eleven. My granddaughter is twelve, almost thirteen, and in my opinion has been ready to do this for several years. In her parents' opinion, she's barely ready to do it now -- but at least they're allowing it.

The only way it was manageable was to have her fly into Orlando, which will be a bit more difficult on my end, but not a big deal. My plan had been to stay a day or two at my time share in Orlando, but "we" dilly-dallied so long that nothing is available for the date she gets in. I'm still messing around with the website; maybe I'll call and see if the staff can rustle something up. If not, it's no big deal. We'll figure out something fun to do. Sometime during her stay I want to go to Savannah, as I may have mentioned before. It's only an hour and a half away and I've never been there (and neigher has she).

We have the flight and that's progress. As my son said after he bought the ticket this evening, "She's feeling like a big girl right about now, getting her travel itinerary in her email." That's pretty exciting!
