Or at least the DC press . . . I would rebel against the current administration and stop attending White House press conferences. The daily shitshow has gotten even more ridiculous -- just when it seemed like it couldn't. No video, only audio with a still picture of the spokesperson on the screen. What is with that?! Never in my life (of watching many White House press conferences) have I seen anything like it.
If the press stopped covering the White House, what would happen? Would people continue to believe what they want to believe, or would they actually read news? Is this a natural consequence of our "instant" world, to wait to be spoonfed what we're allowed to know? It's insane. But while we're at it with breaking the mold (or draining the swamp, if you prefer), let's go all the way and stop doing everything the way we always have. It's like a skit from Saturday Night Live in the eighties (I think), "Bizarro World", or like the episode of Seinfeld in which George does everything the opposite way of how he thinks he should do it. In the former, the world is just backwards; in the latter, things work out pretty well for George. I can't say the same is happening for us.
On the one hand, I have felt a greater need to know what's going on. On the other hand, I've gotten to the point where I really don't want to know anymore. All the smoke and mirrors, all the distraction from important issues . . . and the masses just feed into it. I try very hard to sort out the wheat from the chaff, but sometimes it's hard to figure out what is wheat. We shouldn't have to work this hard to know what our government is doing.
