From time to time I have posted pictures of my bougainvillea; it is the showpiece of my yard (and not just because most of my yard is not that great). It has gone crazy this year after I cut it back a few months ago. I love to sit on my porch and look at it. As if it's not beautiful enough on its own -- full of fuschia blooms -- it has white morning glories with pink centers intertwined. I would take another picture of it now, but the rain just won't stop!
Over the past few weeks, I've noticed several mating pairs of cardinals in my yard, and they have been plucking up the fallen bougainvillea blossoms and carrying them away for nests. This makes me very happy. I can enjoy the beautiful blooms, the birds have material for a nice soft nest, and I get the bonus of watching the cardinals hop around. I haven't quite determined where the nests are, but I'm looking forward to hearing some baby birds soon (I'm not sure how long it takes) and maybe even catching a glimpse of them as they take off on their own. Wouldn't it be nice if they came back to have their own babies here?
