Staring off the Porch
One of my favorite things about staying at my son's house is his front porch. I love standing out front and waving to the neighbors as they pass. It's very different from my neighborhood, where all the porches are in the back and no one waves at anybody. (I wave, but usually don't get a response.) This trip it's been too cold to spend much time on the porch, but I've been out there a few times. Tonight after we got back from dinner, I took one last long look off the porch. The view is very pretty, especially as a little snow coats the yard and the bare trees are silhouetted against the night sky. As much as I appreciate the scenery -- and, of course, my family -- I'm glad to be going home tomorrow. At least that's what I'm telling myself. It will be nice to go where it's warm(er), and I have things to take care of. In less than three months, my son and granddaughters will be coming to Jacksonville for spring break. By that time, I'll have my remodeling finished and will have some time to play. For now, I need to get my bags packed for my noon flight tomorrow.
