Going Once . . .

Because I have some time on my hands for the next few weeks -- although I'm sure I could find something to do around my house -- I've decided to try my hand at bidding on auctions. I've done a lot of research; I'm new to this and don't want to screw it up. Of course, like most people I have some experience with eBay, but that's it. One thing I know even from little eBay auctions: The waiting is excruciating! I'm being smart (I think) and just watching the bidding for now. The two auctions I'm interested in are online, the first lasting today through Friday and the other taking place all day on Tuesday. For the former, I'll watch and make a bid on Friday morning, assuming it hasn't already become too rich for my blood. On Tuesday, I having car repairs done at the local dealership. Ideally I can con the shop into giving me a rental or having someone drive me home. (It's only two or three miles from my house.) Worst case scenario is that I'll have to tend to my auction on the dealership's wifi network. Normally I wouldn't do any financial business under those circumstances, but there won't be any actual transfer of money until the next day.

I'm not sure whether online auctions are better than live ones. I like the idea of reading people, and there's simply no way to do that online. On the other hand, the slower pace of bidding online may be an asset. I'm not sure -- ask me next week!
