Cure-all

While I think I needed a pouty day yesterday, today it was time to get out and do something. I may have mentioned that I recently took over a volunteer group, and this morning we had our first scheduled meeting, a beach clean-up. I was so excited that sixteen people had signed up; one showed up (other than my friend and me). But he was a nice guy and a hard worker, and when it comes right down to it, January isn't a big beach time here, so there wasn't a lot of trash to pick up. One person joined the group and signed RSVPed "yes" at eight thirty. The clean-up started at nine. He didn't show up. I don't understand people who say they will show up and then don't. On the plus side, I have plenty of gloves and water for next time.

The other plus was the fresh air and activity, both of which go a long way toward refreshing the heart and mind. Volunteering has always been important to me and I believe that, given our current societal climate, it's more important than ever to get up and do something. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes. It's from Mother Theresa and I may have related it before: "We can do no great things. We can only do small things with great love."
