I'm certainly not complaining that it's hot in Florida in December. My up-north friends and family are freezing -- my son said on Friday that the temperature had been in the teens -- and I would much rather be dealing with eighty-five degrees and sunny than twelve degrees and icy. But it is weird, and our weather this year has been more up and down than usual. One day last week, it was near-freezing overnight; by the end of the week it was back up in the eighties. Maybe my memory is faulty (which wouldn't surprise me), but I remember the random hot day between December and February, with temps mostly in the fifties and sixties otherwise. This is unusual.
As I stood on my porch a little while ago, I noticed a lizard running around. Then I saw a second, a third, a fourth -- I don't know how many there were. They seemed disoriented; it's odd for the weather to be warm enough this time of year for them to be out. I'm not entirely sure where they go when it's cold out, but I should check. Wherever it is, it must not be too far or deep, or they wouldn't be able to make such a quick return when we had warmer weather. So there's my knowledge quest for this week: the winter habits of lizards.
