Hi Ho, Hi Ho

It's hard to get geared up for work when you work on a college campus, and the day starts with news of yet another school shooting (which turned out not to be a shooting, but rather a stabbing and "driving over" event). I talked to my early freshmen about the attack; my later class seemed less concerned. Then, just now as I logged on to write my blog, I had an email from a company I took some training with several years ago. The subject line was something along the lines of "[company's name]'s response to today's OSU attack." The note started off with a tone of condolence and frustration, but ended with a sales pitch. Yes, you read that right. This company, one I've done business with in the past, was trying to capitalize on fear and tragedy. Yuck. I'm unsubscribing, but I may first write a reply email explaining why. It's bad enough that we have to worry about shooters and protecting our students; I'm not going to tolerate anyone's attempts to use that as a marketing ploy.
