So here I am again, typing on my phone. Never even think that life could not be any more difficult in any given moment! I finally got my summer grades finished and have spent this morning getting everything ready for my two classes that start tomorrow. In the midst of that, I found that I was missing a transcript from a university where I took one class more than twenty years ago. I didn't remember that the credit had transferred as part of my graduate degree. I sent for the transcript and paid the additional twenty dollars to have it sent by next-day mail, only to discover that I also needed to send in a signed authorization form. The form came up as a pdf, which oddly was not one of the formats accepted by the transcript company. Out I went to fax it in. Emergency resolved -- assuming the transcript is delivered to the university by next Tuesday when my classes start. If not, I'll be pissed; I've spent at least fifty dollars in the past week to make sure all my materials would arrive in time for me to begin teaching.
So I hurried back home, wrote and submitted for dean approval two new syllabi, and connected the web program link to my classes. I was folding some clothes before launching into my last bits of prep when I heard a weird beeping and the dogs started barking. It took me a minute to realize the beeping was my surge protector; my power had gone out and remains out. I'm sealed up in the house to prevent AC loss, but with the temperature being nearly a hundred outside I'm not sure how long it will be bearable. I would go to our community pool but this year a new system was activated that requires scanning a key-disc for entry.
I really should know better than to wonder how much more stressful my day could get! Sometimes I find out.
