Feeling of Achievement

Yesterday's post was way too long, so I'll be brief today. The weather was crappy again, and it would have been so easy to put off my planned exercise routine for another day. But I didn't. I got creative and did some weird combination of "gentle kickboxing," old-fashioned (as in 1980s-style) step-tap-grapevine-style dance-aerobics, and yoga. I stayed with it, and despite its being a bit odd, it kept me moving for my half-hour time-goal. I'll admit that the first time I looked at the clock I couldn't believe only ten minutes had passed! After that, though, I didn't look again until I had about ten minutes left. Tomorrow won't be a problem; I meet a friend for coffee and beachwalking almost every Sunday. After that, I'm meeting my son and his girlfriend -- weather permitting -- for a hike through the arboretum my youngest son and I discovered last month. The combination of those two walks should total at least an hour and a half. I thought earlier today that I could allow myself to carry over the extra time, but I won't. My goal is for at least half an hour of good movement each day, so if I exceed that, it's a good thing, but it doesn't take the place of the next day's half hour.

I won't be writing about this every day; I was just excited that I got started. Physically, I felt good afterwards, but mentally I felt even better. I was proud of myself for getting on it, and that felt great! It's not a big deal (yet) but it's a step in the right direction.
