Today, with the help of a friend, I did something I've wanted and needed to do for several years. I had kind of given up because it seemed like such a chore. Together we pulled up the old carpeting in the bedroom! It may not seem like a big deal, but trust me when I say it was. And it wasn't nearly as difficult as I had thought it would be. In four hours, we cleaned out the garage and pulled up the carpet and padding. Amazing! The room we emptied out will be my office, so we took two bookcases from the living room and put them in; now I can start unpacking some of the boxes the damage repair people packed up. All my English/Literature/work books will go in that room, and the shelves are heavy and roomy enough for them all.
Feeling motivated after she left, I reorganized my dining room, partly because I just wanted it to look better but also because another friend is coming over this evening. I'm helping him with his resume and then we're going to cook a nice meal together. He's on his way over now, stopping to pick up everything we'll need. I had to remind him of all my allergies [I'm rolling my eyes] but on the upside, I told him I'm fully stocked on Epi-pens just in case.
I have accomplished so much today I can hardly believe it. In addition to my household tasks, I spoke with the book publisher and told her now just isn't a good time for me to take on another project. She was gracious and said she had enjoyed our conversations and would keep me in mind for future projects. Later in the afternoon, I found out all my paperwork is in order at the new university where I'll be teaching. I'm glad, because I was counting on having those classes when I declined the book project! It's a good evening to help out a friend and then relax with a nice dinner. I hope he doesn't mind that I'm a bit of a sweaty mess.
