Actually, the beachwalk itself was wonderful. The sky was clear and blue, the tide low, the waves gentle and -- bonus -- dolphins jumping just offshore. I went kind of early, so there weren't many people. There were, however, several homeless (I assume) people still asleep. I thought about how wasted I would have to be to fall asleep and stay asleep on the beach as people walked past and the lifeguards set up their chairs. There was one rather unkempt fellow wading a few feet out, dancing to some music only he could hear. I wasn't judging, just observing. I passed something that looked like a cross between human remains and branches. I paused to take a picture and moved on. As I left the beach, a family with young children was approaching. I told them about the dolphins and they were very excited.
Why, you might wonder, was it a "bad beachwalk"? Because it geared up my wanderlust. I want to travel again. I don't know where I want to go, but walking on the beach and staring out at the ocean reminded me of what a big world there is out there -- so many places to go and people to meet. And, of course, new foods to enjoy. Having accepted five classes for fall (especially if the other project I mentioned comes to fruition) won't allow travel for quite some time, about four months. That's okay, though. I need to finish paying off my last two vacations.
Today marks one week of exercising every day for thirty minutes. I can't think of any better way to cap off that first-week milestone than with a walk on the beach on a beautiful day. This was the first morning I've had the luxury of time to get out and do that. On all the other days, I've been so busy that I didn't get around to exercising until the evening, one night starting at 9:00 p.m. That's later than I like to work out. Now I've gotten my workout in, enjoyed the view, and am on with my day. What a great start!
